I have been fortunate to study in many workshops with artist Lian Zehn. He taught me the interesting poured watercolor technique, using only 3 colors.
This painting is done in this very free Chinese style.

Ok…My Plein Air paintbrush is just itching to get outdoors and paint, but here in NY we are still waiting somehow for Spring. Today it is foggy and overcast and damp outside. …No worries, there is always the art studio, and I will work on my latest oil portrait that I call “Gini”
I am painting it from a very worn out black and white photo, and I am enjoying every minute of this painting adventure. So far, I have most of her face done, but now for the hard part…her hair. Wish me luck!

This is a watercolor that I was commissioned to paint, created from my clients photos. It was later hung in his office over his desk to remind him of his favorite pastime.
